Nassau's new H2 responds to a fire in Hempstead, Dec. 22.
GREAT NECK, N.Y. -- North Bay HUMMER and the GM Foundation helped boost the response capability of the American Red Cross in Nassau and Suffolk Counties by donating a 2008 HUMMER H2 to the Nassau chapter, and a 2008 HUMMER H3 on Dec. 19.
HUMMER's relationship with the Red Cross began in 2004 with a commitment to provide 72 vehicles throughout the nation. Today, there are 19 vehicles in service, including the H2 and H3 that was donated to the Nassau and Suffolk Chapters from North Bay HUMMER. Because they are highly mobile vehicles, they have been used in many disasters including Hurricane Katrina and the California Wildfires. Locally, the HUMMER will drastically improve the Nassau and Suffolk Counties Chapter's ability to respond quickly to local emergencies like fires and flooding. Last year, the Nassau Red Cross responded to 81 local disasters.
The Nassau and Suffolk Red Cross is able to provide assistance thanks to the generosity of individual and corporate donors like HUMMER and the GM Foundation. |
